Labyrinths

Parts of spirals have been used in the design of labyrinths and mazes since the time of the Ancient Greeks. This ancient labyrinth design was used as a symbol and decoration. The spirals double back on themselves. Try following the path in from the entrance at the bottom.

This labyrinth of three connected spirals is related to the triskele design. Each part is in fact made up of two spirals, one inside the other. Try following the path from the entrance at the bottom.

A square type of labyrinth is often used as a decoration. It is called a Greek Key or Meandros pattern. This coffee set was made by Portmeirion Pottery. Keep a look out for the same design in graphics, mosaic floors and the fronts of old buildings.
