Ellipses in sculpture

The sculptor Kenneth Martin chose ellipses to make the arms of his rotating sculpture in Swansea. The curves suggest natural objects and forces.

The sculptor David Nash uses timber or growing trees to make his art works. One of his most famous sculptures is Ash Dome. It is similar to an ellipse, formed by cutting and shaping the trees. He has been growing it since 1977 near his home in Blaenau Ffestiniog. A film by Pete Telfer has recorded it.
